Hi - we've been living in this beautiful part of the world since 2004 and have a passion for the lifestyle and traditions of the region. We're both British - Simon Scottish and Lynda English and chose to opt out of the rat race for a better quality of life which we have found here in the Ariège Pyrénées.
Our 2 cottages (gites), Mélanie & Menezil, are named after a brother and sister who lived in either side of the original building many years ago. In those days the people in rural areas often lived above their cattle who were kept in barns on the ground floor of the property. Things have changed a lot but we've left some old pre-conversion pictures inside each cottage! The building has been lovingly restored so that our customers can fully enjoy their stay with us.
The cottages make a great base for exploring the region with easy access to Toulouse, Carcassonne and Andorra and, for the more adventurous, over the border into Spain. A great area if you're looking for an activity based holiday with lots of outdoor pursuits. The cottages are located on an old Tour de France cycle route leading towards our departmental capital of Foix with it's stunning castle - only 10 minutes away.
We're located in the Ariège Pyrénées Natural Park (PNR) in the heart of the countryside - but not at all remote! We have easy access to the coast at Narbonne, the stunning city of Toulouse, the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Carcassonne, the pilgrimage city of Lourdes and we're just a short hop from Andorra and Spain. Our nearest large towns are Foix, Pamiers, Saint Girons and the medieval bastide city of Mirepoix.
We hope to see you soon!
Lynda & Simon
